And we have seen the far right try to position itself as pro-worker, while in reality standing with bad bosses, zero-hours contracts, and fire-and-rehire practices.
Trade unions are among the few institutions with the reach, resources and organising power to challenge this threat in the workplace.
To strengthen that response, the TUC is launching courses and hosting events to equip unions with the tools and strategies needed to counter the far right and protect working people. Find out more and register your interest below.
Complete this anti-far right educational request form if you are member or member of staff at a TUC affiliated union and your branch/workplace needs support to effectively recognise, challenge, and respond to threats from the far right.
Building union strength through constructive conversations
Problems, frustrations, and divisive opinions are a reality in many workplaces. For union reps, these can be challenging—but they are also opportunities to build solidarity, strengthen relationships, and demonstrate the value of union action and involvement.
This three-day in-person course equips union reps with the understanding, confidence, and practical tools needed to recognise and respond constructively when tensions, frustrations, or difficult viewpoints arise among members or colleagues.
Dangerous far-right narratives are spreading faster than ever across social media. These are shaping opinions, sowing division and targeting workers and young people. Trade unionists know the challenge we face, and we know we need workers’ voices front and centre of the response.
In November, more than 500 union reps joined our webinar on making social videos to counter far-right narratives - showing the huge appetite across our movement to get involved and take action.
To build on this momentum, we are launching the Workers Voice Network - a course that will train and support workers to safely create impactful digital content that challenges harmful and divisive narratives online.
Far right extremism is on the rise in Britain. Hate speech spreads unchecked online, and acts of far right terrorism have rocketed. But unions have stronger weapons than the far right — solidarity, trust, and of course, our union reps and activists. Together we can keep our workplaces hate-free. This updated TUC Education resource will help you recognise, oppose and play your part in stopping far right activity. Access the guide here.

This three day in-person course supports union reps in recognising, understanding, and constructively responding to grievances and challenging views in the workplace. Through a series of practical activities, discussions, and roleplays, reps will explore how grievances emerge and evolve, how to ground responses in union values, and how to turn difficult conversations into opportunities for connection, solidarity, and action. By the end of the course, reps will have built skills to respond with empathy and confidence and developed a personalised action plan to support members and strengthen union presence.
