Background
Since 2008, CSC have taken more than 200 young trade unionists to take part in Cuba's May Day celebrations and this visit provides the opportunity to reciprocate and learn from our Cuban comrades. Yamil Eduardo Martinez and Yudith Camps Alejo will discuss 'the next generation' of trade unionism in Cuba. Yamil and Yudith - whose whole lives have been spent under the US blockade - will look at the relationship that young people and the 'post-1959 generation' have with the Cuban Revolution and the role they have played in Cuba's recent economic changes.
Yamil is a representative of the National Public Service Workers' Union at the municipal and provincial level and will be a delegate at the 20th Congress of the Confederation of Cuban Workers (CTC) in January 2014. Yudith works at ICAP (Cuban Friendship Institute) and has responsibility for Middle Eastern and African countries. She has been a union branch secretary since March 2013.
