After pressure from trade unions the government unveiled a multi-billion pound wage subsidy scheme as the UK moved into lockdown and businesses closed their doors.
Millions of workers who could have faced losing their jobs are receiving 80 per cent or more of their wages.
But as the government sought to move quickly to stem job losses it has repeatedly re-issued its guidance on who can qualify, and how much they can get, in an attempt to close gaps or clear up inconsistencies in the scheme.
