Overview

The TUC’s Young Workers Organising Weekend is back! Taking place on Saturday 4 April in Hull, we invite the best and most exciting practitioners in trade union and community organising to deliver workshops on the latest techniques, developments and best practices in the movement.

The TUC’s Yorkshire Organising Weekend is the biggest gathering in the UK dedicated to developing the organising potential of young trade unionists (35 and under)

  • Join dozens of young activists who want to be on the front lines in our workplaces and our communities, organising new workers and agitating together.
  • Meet some of the best practitioners in organising from across the country and around the world.
  • A full day of workshops include creative organising tactics, beating apathy, running a campaign, and training in digital organising.
  • Organise with others in your union, industry, or campaign. Face-to-face meetings to share tactics and swap notes are what this weekend is all about.

This year will feature:

  • Bryan Simpson from the STUC’s Better than Zero campaign for precarious hospitality workers
  • Jo Grady, newly elected UCU General Secretary on how to build and win a union campaign
  • Rohan Kon, full time organiser for Sheffield Needs a Pay Rise
  • Invited trade union organisers from abroad

The organising weekend is a practical, workshop-based day of training to upskill young activists and empower them to go out and start building their union.

Delegates are invited to attend the daytime training on Saturday 4 April and also stay for dinner and overnight to participate in a panel debate on young workers in the trade union movement during the Sunday session of the TUC’s Regional Conference, which takes place in parallel to the organising weekend. Further details and costings are on the downloadable form below.

Interested delegates should download an expression of interest form and seek approval from their union for attendance and costs.
