Overview

To mark International Workers' Memorial Day each year, Hartlepool Trades Union Council holds a Workers' Memorial Day remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony.

Please join us to remember those employees who have died through industrial accident or disease whilst trying to earn an honest living for themselves and their families.

It is likely that over 50 wreaths will be laid by individuals / organisations. However, individual flowers will be available on the day should anyone wish to lay one in memory of a loved one.

A new Workers' Memorial Day film has been commissioned and will be first shown at the service. This is an Educational video suitable for all ages and audiences.

This year's speakers include:

  • Fran Heathcote, General Secretary, PCS
  • Paul Shevlin, Thompsons Regional Managing Partner and Head of PRC
  • Paul 'Goffy' Gough with eulogy to John Brookes, North East Organiser, NASUWT
  • Karl Wager, Cleveland FBU Chair & North East Region Health and Safety Official
  • Special Guest:- Alan Mardghum, General Secretary, Durham Miners Association (Alan will be speak at the Workers Memorial in Church Square prior to the wreath laying)

Everyone is welcome to attend and we would especially like to welcome any family, friends and colleagues who wish to remember loved ones who have died or been injured, or made ill through their work.
