The Fire Brigades Union are driving a campaign to ensure all women fire fighters across the country have access to the same level of dignified maternity pay when having a child.

In what used to be a postcode lottery based on provisions changing from brigade to brigade, too many members got rushed back to work too soon because they couldn’t afford to stay at home with their child after giving birth.

FBU’s campaign has already achieved a lot – thanks to their work, now all women across the country have access to at least 26 weeks of full pay maternity pay. But their work doesn’t stop here – they want to achieve 52 weeks of full pay for every FBU fire fighter.
