Raymond is chair of the BMA's Occupational Medicine Committee and in this role supports the health, safety and welfare of people at work. He is also a member of the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council.

Shelly Asquith, Health and Safety Policy Officer - TUC

Shelly has been responsible for unions' response to Covid, ran a campaign to change the law on maximum workplace temperatures, and works with unions and campaigners for asbestos removal as Chair of the Joint Unions Asbestos Committee.

Mark edits the popular Safety and Health Practitioner service. SHP provides a wealth of content on the law and legislation, fire safety, lone working and safety culture at work.

Lord John Hendy KC, practices employment and trade union law. As a Labour peer, John is Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Occupational Safety and Health.

Rob Miguel

Rob Miguel, National Health and Safety Advisor - Unite the Union

Rob has contributed to campaigns on workplace temperatures, safety related Covid issues and has published guidance for Unite safety reps on risk assessments.

Janet Newsham

Janet Newsham, Coordinator - Greater Manchester Hazards Campaign

Janet is responsible for Hazards, the UK wide network of resource centres and campaigners. The Hazards Campaign supports safety at work and has lead work challenging work related injuries and diseases and has carried out a considerable body of research on safety practices.

Sarah Newton

Sarah Newton, Chair - Health and Safety Executive and former Minister of State for Disabled People, Work and Health

Sarah chairs the national regulator for workplace health and safety. The Health and Safety Executive publish a range of guidance on health and safety as well as inspect and regulate workplaces.

Ged Nichols

Ged Nichols, Board Member Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and General Secretary of Accord

Ged is one of the trade union representatives on the HSE board. Ged started his working life with the Halifax Building Society in 1979 and immediately became a union member and health and safety rep. He was elected General Secretary of Accord in 1993, and sits on the TUC's Executive Committee and General Council.

Paul Nowak

Paul Nowak, General Secretary - TUC

Paul became a union member aged 17 while working at Asda. In 2023 he was appointed TUC General Secretary. Paul has led numerous high profile campaigns including against the government's plans for regional pay in the public sector and improved safe working guidance during the pandemic.

Nick Pahl

Nick Pahl, Chief Executive - Society of Occupational Medicine

Nick is head of the Society of Occupational Medicine. The SOM is the UK organisation for healthcare professionals working in or with an interest in occupational health. The Society undertakes research and provides training to promote a healthier workforce. Nick is also a board member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and Chair of ROSPA's National Health and Safety Committee.

Graham Petersen

Graham Petersen, Coordinator - Trade Union Clean Air Network (TUCAN)

Graham has coordinated the Trade Union Clean Air Network (established by the Green Jobs Alliance and Hazards Campaign) since 2019. The TUCAN campaigns for workers and trade unions to have greater recognition on air pollution issues.  The network has worked with union reps on air pollution measurements and provides training and guidance for workplace reps on monitoring.

Jawad manages Hazards Magazine, the independent, union friendly health and safety resource. Hazards is a wealth of information and resources for workplace safety reps.

Lesley Rushton

Dr Lesley Rushton, Chair of the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC), Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine

Lesley chairs the IIAC which in the last five years has been heavily engaged in evaluating evidence relating to major occupational risks, including Covid.

Rebecca Sixsmith-Hughes - TUC

Rebecca leads the TUC’s project to find the movement’s next generation of workplace representatives.

Before joining the TUC, Rebecca was a Unite branch chair representing cabin crew for a major airline at Gatwick before becoming a full time official for UNISON.

Lesley Wood

Lesley Wood, Health and Safety Adviser - RCM

Lesley has worked on multiple campaigns at the RCM on health and safety including getting home safely, lone working and menopause. She is also chair of the TUC's Gender and Occupational Safety and Health group.
