We come together for Congress 2025 at a pivotal time for working people, our movement and our country.
Over the next few weeks the Employment Rights Bill is expected to receive Royal Assent – a landmark moment that will improve the rights and incomes of millions.
From banning exploitative zero-hours contracts to strengthening rights to union recognition, fair pay and job security – these are real, practical changes that working people will feel in their day-to-day lives.
This didn’t happen by chance. It’s the result of years of hard work by unions - and testament to what our movement, working with a Labour government, can achieve.
It’s exactly the kind of tangible change this country has so badly needed after 14 years of Conservative failure. A period marked by stagnant wages, crumbling public services and growing insecurity.
At a time when populist forces are trying to divide communities and turn people against each other our movement offers something different: hope and a belief in the power of working people standing together for a better deal.
I’m immensely proud of what our unions and reps deliver every day. Whether that’s winning better pay, protecting jobs, improving safety, securing equality or helping members through tough times.
These victories show what’s possible when workers are organised and supported and they underline why unions are essential to a fairer and stronger economy.
Over the next few days we’ll debate a wide range of motions that reflect the breadth, diversity and energy of the modern world of work.
Congress is our opportunity to shape the priorities of our movement for the year ahead – to reflect, to plan and to build for the future together - here in Britain, and with our sister movements around the globe.
I hope you have a great Congress if you are joining us in Brighton. You can also watch from home on our live stream below.
