Commenting on the Scottish referendum result today (Friday), TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said: “After years of declining public engagement in the political process, the Scottish referendum has breathed new life into politics, capturing the interest of almost everyone – including those who have never before shown an interest in voting.
“But for people throughout the rest of the UK to similarly renew their interest in democracy, Westminster politicians need to start showing that they genuinely understand the stresses and strains being experienced by ordinary people – their worries about falling pay, rising prices and finding somewhere affordable to live.
“Unless this happens many people – whether they live in Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast, London or Liverpool – will continue to feel locked out of the benefits of growth.”
