TUC supports junior doctors' right to strike

Commenting on the BMA junior doctors’ overwhelming vote in favour of strike action, TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“Nobody takes strikes lightly, least of all in the health sector. The BMA’s junior doctors have been forced into this position by Jeremy Hunt. We absolutely support their right to strike.

“The BMA have offered fresh negotiations and the government should take up this offer immediately.

“The government cannot expect NHS workers to meet the growing demands on our health service, while starving it of funds and restraining pay. All health workers deserve a fair deal.”

NOTES TO EDITORS:
- Junior doctors in the BMA have voted 98% in favour of strike action, with a turnout of 76%.
