TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak said:
“Today, we remember the trans people who’ve been killed around the world, and here in the UK.
“Every year, too many trans and no binary people are killed because of hate.
“And many more face discrimination across all walks of life, including at work.
“I'd urge all trans workers to join a union, so they are supported, represented and heard.
“Unions stand up to and challenge discrimination and make sure workplaces are safe and inclusive for everyone, regardless of their gender or gender identity, sexual orientation or other background.
“The Trade Unions for Trans and Non Binary Rights Alliance is a great example of the work being done to connect grassroot organisations, trade unions and activist in pursuit of equality and justice.
“We welcome Labour’s commitment to equalise the legislation on hate crime so trans people have more recourse to justice – and their commitment to ensuring that conversion therapy for trans people becomes illegal.”
