RAAC
Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) was used as a building material for decades, and it's still in the structures of many of the schools, hospitals and other sites we use every day. It's a risk because it can lead to structural instability. We've written
an explainer to help you understand the issue,
called on the government to take action, and now NEU has launched a
petition for transparency and investment in school repairs.
Cuts Leave Scars:
Stop Fire Service Cuts
Can you help? When fire services get cut back, all workers and their families are at risk. The Fire Brigades' Union in Scotland is asking for everyone's support in
this petition urging the government to reverse cuts.
National Respect for Shopworkers Week
Shop workers' union USDAW's Freedom from Fear campaign has a national campaign week coming up next month, and they are asking for support. Did you know three-quarters of their members have experienced verbal abuse, half were threatened by a customer and 8% have been assaulted.
You can
download or order campaign materials to display.
SPF is PPE
The sun is disappearing but the risk of skin cancer is on the rise. If your members' job involves outdoor work, are they being provided with protection from the sun's harmful rays? We've produced fresh guidance on why SPF is personal protective equipment and how to make the argument for it.
Know a young worker who'd make a great rep?
We are trying to encourage more young members to become health and safety reps because there currently aren't very many.
If you know someone who would make a great health and safety rep, we are running free, online 1-day, introductory courses to give them the chance to find out more.
