The TUC has written to the Guatemalan ambassador to the UK after the brutal murder of trade union legal advisor Brenda Marleni Estrada Tambiento.

TUC Aid Gaza Plant Nursery Appeal Project Update

A TUC delegation visited Palestine in January/February and while in East Jerusalem the delegation was able to meet representatives of APHEDA, the Australian trade union movement’s aid agency, and MA’AN - the organisations responsible for running the Nursery Project in the Gaza Strip that TUC Aid has helped to fund.

ILO conference takes a strong stand on the future of work around global supply chains

An agreement following the ILO ‘’general discussion’’ on decent work in global supply chains has been approved which sets in motion a process that could lead to a legal standard improving the lives of millions of workers in global supply chains. Read how employers were resisting responsibility for malpractice in those chains and the time wasting tactics of some governments in the lead up to the agreement at the ILO conference.

Qatar: 11 Killed in Labour Camp Fire

The deaths of 11 workers in a Qatar labour camp fire on 1 June is yet another example of the government’s complete disregard for the migrant workers building the huge infrastructure programme in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup.

IndustriALL Philippines held a three-day training workshop designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of field organizers to enable them to effectively carry out organizing campaigns in a challenging environment.

Five Years of Progress for Domestic Workers, But Much Still to be done

In the five years since the International Labour Organization adopted Convention 189 on Domestic Workers, governments in nearly 50 countries have updated their legislation to provide better employment protection for domestic workers, and 22 countries have already ratified the Convention.

OECD Forum warned of families living on the edge

The ITUC released a new global poll at the OECD Forum in Paris, reporting that one in ten are falling through the cracks in nine of the world’s largest economies.

World Bank slashes 2016 global growth forecast

The World Bank recently released the June 2016 edition of its biannual Global Economic Prospects report, which includes a substantial reduction of the Bank’s 2016 global economic growth forecast, from 2.9 per cent in the January edition to 2.4 now. If realised, global economic growth in 2016 would be the same as in 2015, which was the slowest year since the Great Recession of 2009.

ACT NOW! Turkey: Reinstate women union workers

Global cosmetics giant Avon have sacked protesting workers in Turkey, mainly women, as part of a union-busting drive. The workers are demanding that Avon hire back the fired workers, register all workers as permanent employees, and recognize the union. In addition, the union is campaigning for an agreement with the company to provide reasonable wages, hours, benefits and working conditions, and a woman-friendly and harassment-free workplace.

CSC is delighted to announce that René González and Gerardo Hernández will be coming to Britain for the Miami Five Freedom Tour this July. The two heroes of the Republic of Cuba will be joined by members of their family and Cuban journalists who will report on the tour. Celebrate freedom for the Miami Five and solidarity with Cuba this July.

Friday 15th to Sunday 17th July 2016

Every July thousands of people come to Tolpuddle to celebrate trade unionism and to remember the sacrifice made by the six farm workers of the village.
