These five women have won the Congress union representative awards in 2019. These inspiring and passionate women is what the trade union movement stands for.

 

Christina Distefano - Usdaw

Winner of TUC Youth Award

Christina has volunteered at her local community centre for most of her life. She wants to bring people together regardless of where they live or how they speak. Her local community centre is one big family, where everyone looks out for each other and the community. Video clip

Jenny Cooper - NEU

TUC Safety Rep Award

Jenny works as a music teacher and is passionate about keeping her pupils and staff safe at her school. Being part of a union helps her to run campaigns to change things for the better, not only in her school but in others too. Video clip

Lyn Marie O’Hara - UNISON

Organising Award

Lyn Marie was involved in the biggest equal pay strike in Glasgow. When Lyn saw thousands of people coming together, believing that change is created from the bottom up - it was the best moment in her working life. Video clip

Pat Heron - UNISON

Women’s Gold Badge

Pat is proud that she is part of a union that has 1.3 million members - over 1 million of whom are women. Her union helped her to work on women’s issues in her workplace - and to make all workplaces more equal for women. Video clip

Susan Mann - Unite

Union Learning Rep Award

Susan wants to see people happy and accomplished at work. That’s why she’s proud of the people she helps to pass courses at their learning centre and get good qualifications. Helping people to learn gives Susan a huge sense of achievement. Video clip
