About this Role

The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 500,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

We are now seeking to recruit a Senior Regional Officer (Bargaining) in the NEU Eastern Office in Kennett.  The Senior Regional Officer will be a dynamic manager, with experience in organising members, reps and activists to deliver the unions objectives.

The postholder will be required to lead and manage a team in efficiently and effectively supporting members, activists and lay officers in the region and contribute to the strength of the Union by overseeing, monitoring and evaluating the negotiating/bargaining work in the region and supporting issue-based bargaining.

To be effective in this role you will need to have a solid knowledge and understanding of the education systems operating in the UK and relevant legislation and an excellent record of successful casework management. Through a combination of strong influencing and negotiating skills, sound analytical skills and an ability to successfully engage with key stakeholders, you will need to be comfortable with representing the Union externally at a senior level to a range of audiences.

Prospective applicants are advised that this is a full-time role, but we would welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time, job-share or other flexible working arrangements. Also, as this is mobile role, having a full and valid driving licence is essential at the point of application and due to the nature of the work involved, the postholders will be required to attend regular activities, conferences and meetings away from the normal place of work, which will involve stays away from home.  These will be regionally and nationally. In addition, the Union operates a blended working policy with opportunities for some element of home working.

In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including a non-superannuable luncheon allowance currently set at £1308, 35 days’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a defined benefit pension scheme. Salary and benefits will be pro-rata for part-time applicants.
