Overview

Hosted by TUC North West, Alison McGovern MP and Wirral Metropolitan College.

Trade unions have always played an important role in ensuring members and workers get access to learning opportunities in the workplace. Whether it be education, awareness raising or vocational skills, union representatives have worked with employers to deliver learning that benefits all.

This event is an opportunity to look at what we have now and what we want next. It is open to all workplace reps, employers and those interested in learning at work.

In the first part of the afternoon, we will hear about what is happening now in our workplaces from our trade unions, employers and public authorities – good examples, best practice and a showcase of the good work union representatives are doing.

In the second part, we will be joined by policy makers – Lord David Blunkett (former Cabinet Minister and Chair of Labour’s Council of Skills) Kevin Rowan (TUC Head of Organisation, Services and Skills), Praful Nargund (business leader) and Alison McGovern MP (Shadow Employment Minister) – and this will be our chance to hear about and help shape what comes next.

The event takes place during Learning at Work week. This year's theme, Create the Future, explores how lifelong learning at work can help us all personally and collectively create our futures. Join us to build on what we’re doing now and create the future that benefits our members, workers and employers.

There will be food and a networking opportunity at the end of the event. A full agenda will follow.
