~~Commenting on statistics released by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) today (Tuesday) which show that the graduate employment rate fell to 76.3 per cent in 2015 Q2 from 77.8 per cent a year ago – reaching the lowest rate for two years – TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“While it is good news that graduate salaries have increased, a fall of 1.5 percentage points in the graduate employment rate is very worrying, especially over a period when the employment rate for the whole economy rose by 0.6 percentage points.

“This is more evidence that the UK economy is shifting towards low skill, low productivity work, and without a new approach the investment and innovation that modern economies need to work will all take place elsewhere.

“We need a new plan that gives everyone a fair share in economic recovery – not just those at the top – and creates decent jobs for everyone.”
