Commenting on the latest manufacturing figures published today (Wednesday) by the Office for National Statistics, which show that manufacturing is still five per cent below its pre-recession peak, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“Manufacturing is still stuck well below its pre-recession level, and has just fallen back again. We were promised a ‘march of the makers’, but with manufacturing still not back on its feet it is clear that Osborne’s economic plan has failed.

“The extreme cuts the Chancellor is planning in next month’s budget will only make a manufacturing recovery harder to achieve. We need a better economic plan that prioritises investment in skills and innovation, and which protects tax credits for working families so that the businesses that depend on their spending are not harmed.”
