Count me in!

Published date
This heart unions week is different, and unions are adapting across he North East to the new challenges this presents.

None more so than the Communication Workers Union (CWU), known in the movement for their impeccable online campaigning skills CWU are taking things digital this week with a focus on terms and conditions.

Like many workplaces during the pandemic BT, EE and Openreach are using it as an opportunity to close sites and introduced the new threat of compulsory redundancies upending almost half a century of stable industrial relations.

Th CWU have launched their ‘Count Me In’ campaign to raise awareness in all parts of the business about the looming prospect of further attacks on their hard-won terms and conditions.

Heart unions week offers the union a chance to raise awareness about the campaign but also educates its members and recruit new activists.

Branches across the region are traditionally very active in offices, cantines and the staff room during Heart Unions week. This year they are focusing on educating members on how to get more active in the union.

They are inviting members to record a video every day of this week on the following topics, why did they join the union, what made them get active in the union and what is their message to any new potential members or people thinking about getting more active within the union.

They will be posting these videos everyday on the CWU North East Regional Facebook and Twitter accounts.
