Aegis grew from a staff association established in 1971 to a trade union, gaining independent status in 2008. Our strategy is to grow carefully within the finance sector.
In 2014 we expanded our membership out with Aegon by bringing the finance sector unions that represented staff in HML, Skipton and Yorkshire Building Societies under the Aegis umbrella.
Through our involvement with lobbying groups like the Alliance for Finance, TUC, STUC and FISO we have access to the bodies that shape and regulate our sector. Through regular meetings with organisations like the FCA , ABI, Scottish Parliament and Westminster, we are able to influence the thinking at the highest level on issues that affect employees and employers in our industry.
We negotiate and consult on all matters affecting the workplace such as your terms and conditions of employment, pay, hours of work, holidays, company policies, benefits package, bonus schemes, organisational restructures and many more.
We have managed to secure and retain some of the best working conditions in the sector. We support hundreds of members every year dealing with individual problems in the workplace. These include disciplinary issues, grievances , performance management issues, flexible working requests, redundancy situations, change of job or work.
