This new joint report from the TUC and Greenpeace argues that acting on climate change will create jobs and a new world of opportunities - if the transition is well managed and supported. The “green economy” already supports a million jobs and is worth over £122bn a year. Yet it has sometimes been the case that the TUC and the environment movement have held differing views on the way the transition should be managed. And in the past, communities and industries have sometimes lost out heavily in periods of rapid change.
This report explores those agreements and differences, and identifies where our movements have a common agenda to reap the benefits of the move towards a cleaner and stronger economy. Green Collar Nation was written as the new Conservative government began making radical cuts to our low-carbon energy policies. We also have a shared agenda and common interest in resisting these cuts.
