Dr Jo Grady

Dr Jo Grady was elected General Secretary of the University and College Union in 2019 and subsequently re-elected in 2024. Previously she had spent ten years as a UCU departmental rep and branch officer at the universities of Leicester and then Sheffield, where she was a Senior Lecturer in Employment Relations. 

Jo was born in 1984 to a miner and a mother who was raising two older brothers in tough times, during the miners’ strike. Having attended Wakefield College, she completed a PhD at the University of Lancaster on trade union responses to neoliberal pensions reforms.
