About

Eddie Dempsey was elected RMT general secretary in 2025.

He started work on the rail network at Great Western Railway and eventually became a train driver.

RMT served as an RMT rep and as RMT Paddington branch secretary in 2010.

He was an RMT AGM delegate from 2016 to 2019 when he was elected as an RMT regional organiser covering most train operating companies.

He was elected a RMT assistant general secretary and worked closely with RMT general secretary Mick Lynch during the successful national rail dispute.

He was elected unopposed when Mick retired in 2025.
