What is a Union Equality Rep?
They promote equality, challenge discrimination and help create workplaces where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and has an equal opportunity to succeed. By working proactively to identify barriers and improve workplace policies, practices and culture, Equality Reps help build more inclusive workplaces that benefit everyone.
The Employment Rights Act introduces statutory rights for Union Equality Representatives, recognising the important contribution they make in promoting equality and supporting positive workplace change.
What does a Union Equality Rep do?
Equality Reps work with union members and employers to promote equality and create fairer, more inclusive workplaces. They may:
- promote equality, dignity and inclusion at work
- support colleagues experiencing discrimination or inequality
- raise awareness through campaigns, learning and workplace events
- work with employers to improve equality policies and practices
