Equality Audit

The TUC publishes a biennial equality audit. The first audit was carried out in 2003 and provides a yardstick to measure progress on equality issues across all union activities.

Audits alternate between focusing on how unions pursue equality issues through collective bargaining and on how union membership, rules and internal structures reflect the diversity of the workforce.

The audit was established after a TUC rule change in 2001, which committed the TUC and unions to promote equality in all aspects of our work. All TUC affiliated unions are asked to complete a survey for the audit.

Equality Audit 2024

The 2024 audit looks at equality bargaining and covers a difficult yet inspiring time for our movement. It comes after the Covid-19 pandemic which exposed structural disadvantage and discrimination in our society and a cost-of-living crisis that disproportionately impacted Black workers, disabled workers and women.
