Responding to the fortnightly ONS business survey, which shows that 25% of business that are currently closed expect to open again in the next month, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“With many businesses preparing to reopen in the coming weeks, it’s vital that we ensure workers are kept safe.

“All employers are required to carry out risk assessments in consultation with unions and their workforces, and they should be published. Government should also change the law to require bigger employers to publish these assessments.

“Employers who fail to keep their workers safe must be penalised. Getting this right is in the national interest. If rogue employers cut corners it puts us all at risk of a second spike in infections.”
