TUC calls on ministers to now turn their attention to securing a closer relationship with the EU
Commenting on the US-UK trade deal, TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak said:
“It's right that the government has taken urgent action to protect good quality jobs up and down the country after Trump's arbitrary tariffs threatened to take a wrecking ball to our automotive and manufacturing sectors.
"This agreement takes us back from the brink and many workers will breathe easier as a result.
“Our view on trade deals is consistent – they must be worker focused and promote jobs, safeguard public services and protect high standards on workers’ rights.
“We will wait to see the full details and over the coming weeks we will engage with government to ensure adequate protections for workers' data.
“Ministers must now turn their attention to securing a closer trading relationship with the EU. In an increasingly volatile and unpredictable global economy, it’s more important than ever that we forge stronger ties with our closest neighbours."
