Commenting on the publication of a report from David Neal, the previous inspector of borders and immigration, on the licensing scheme for care worker visas, TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak said:

“The social care system is crumbling under this government – and migrant care workers are on the sharp end.

“Far too many suffer exploitation and abuse at the hands of rogue employers.

“Migrant care workers deserve to be valued, respected and secure in the workplace – just like any other employee.

“Ministers need to put an end to the unlawful recruitment fees charged to many migrant care workers, and make sure exploited workers can easily find a new employer who will treat them fairly.

“And they need to bring in a fair pay agreement across the social care system, so that workers and their unions can shape a fair deal for everyone in the sector, wherever they are from.”
