Commenting on the widespread flooding across Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said: “Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by the devastating flooding this Christmas – and with the emergency workers who are pulling out all the stops over the festive season to help improve conditions for families in distress.

“We need a consistent approach to spending on flood defences especially if flooding is to become more likely in the future, and the government must think again about cutting staff at the Environment Agency.”
