The TUC has today written to the government calling for an urgent meeting on the growing menace of far-right extremism and fascism.

Recent months have seen rising confidence among those on the far-right. This was on clear show during last weekend’s demonstration in London organised by Tommy Robinson supporters and pro Trump groups.

Bolstered by support from a global network of far right figures and fascist forces, and dangerous rhetoric from the likes of Donald Trump, they are taking their hate-filled messages to the streets of Britain.

As well as inciting violence they have launched verbal and physical attacks on our democratic representatives, trade unionists and anti-racist campaigners.

Trade unionists are in the frontline of defence against the political poison spread by such groups. All democrats will join our condemnation of their violence against women and men standing up against the so-called Alt right’s racism, sexism, antisemitism and racism.

We will continue to oppose these forces of hatred and division, and to promote our values of tolerance and diversity. There must be no place for far-right and fascist violence and intimidation.
