  • EHRC confirms the deadline for employers to report on their gender pay gap is to be extended by 6 months to October

  • TUC calls on good employers to show their commitment to equality and publish their pay gaps without delay

Responding to confirmation today (Tuesday) by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) that the deadline for employers to report on their gender pay gap will be extended by six months to October, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“Delaying gender pay gap reporting for six months isn’t necessary. There is nothing to stop bosses reporting in March as usual – and hopefully good employers will still do this.

“Now is not the time to turn our backs on equality. Women have lost out on pay and had to cut their hours in the pandemic. It’s vital that employers analyse their pay gaps and take immediate action to close them. Unnecessary delay risks turning the clock back.

“This decision sends a worrying message about the importance given to gender equality. It’s not just a nice addition in good times that can be shelved when the going gets tough.”

- The TUC, Mother Pukka and Grazia magazine have launched a petition calling on the government not to suspend the requirement on businesses to report on their gender pay gap, and instead maintain this vital tool for equality and expand it to include ethnicity and disability pay gap data: www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/reinstate-gender-pay-gap-reporting
- Earlier this month, the TUC joined with a coalition of two dozen women’s organisations and other NGOs to call on the EHRC to use its enforcement powers to investigate the government’s failure to comply with equality law in their Covid-19 response: https://www.tuc.org.uk/news/unions-and-charities-call-ehrc-investigate-…;
