Commenting on new inflation figures published today (Wednesday) by the Office for National Statistics, which show CPI inflation falling to 2.1%, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:
“Lower inflation should be good news for workers. But with signs that the economy is getting weaker, the government must act now to protect living standards.
“That means increasing public investment to match our competitors and keep the economy growing. And ministers should show leadership by guaranteeing every public sector worker a pay rise above inflation this year.”
