Responding to today’s (Tuesday) news that administrators have been appointed for Belfast shipyard Harland and Wolff, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“The future of Harland and Wolff, its workers and their communities hang in the balance.

“The UK government must stop watching from the side lines, talk to the unions, and come up with an urgent rescue plan.

“It's vital that ministers do whatever is needed to keep the shipyard open and explore renationalisation.

Harland and Wolff is a national asset of strategic importance. It can't just be left to die.”
