Employment Rights Bill could “transform social care”, says TUC

“We won’t improve the recruitment and retention crisis in our social care sector unless we make it a better place to work. 

“Social care in the UK is rife with zero-contracts, poverty pay and unsafe working conditions. 

“With an ageing population and demand for care services rising this dedicated and skilled – and predominantly female – workforce deserves much better. 

“Labour’s Employment Rights Bill, set to be announced later this morning, could deliver the transformation our social care services so desperately need. 

“A sector-wide Fair Pay Agreement would improve pay, conditions and training and make a huge difference to staff and service users. And it would lay the foundations for a National Care Service in the future.”
