Commenting on today’s (Wednesday) inflation figures, which show CPI inflation at 1.8% in line with the Bank of England forecast, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:
“Inflation has been below target for some time now and is forecast to fall further. It’s a sign of the ongoing weakness in our economy.
“The Chancellor must not hold back in his budget. No more excuses: working people need investment in the public services they rely on. And the economy needs an urgent boost to bring back solid growth.”
- The Bank of England forecast that inflation would rise to 1.8% in Q1 2020, driven by changes to Ofgem’s energy price cap, then fall to 1.3% in Q2.
