Commenting on new inflation figures published today (Wednesday) by the Office for National Statistics, which show CPI inflation unchanged at 1.9%, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:
“The chancellor is running out of excuses for not investing in our over-stretched public services. By insisting on more austerity, he is holding back the economy and harming people’s lives.
“It’s time to rebuild the services that working families depend on for safe neighbourhoods and good lives. We need our youth services back, our Sure Start centres and other community services. And we must reduce the pressure on overworked and underpaid staff in our schools and hospitals”
