World Day for Decent Work - 7 October 2011

Deep spending cuts and a global economy on life support are hurting workers from Manchester to Malawi. More than ever we need the ideas, the tools and the commitment to bring about decent work for all. The TUC is supporting a day of debate, music and laughter to mark this years' World Day for Decent Work.

Decent work for domestic workers?

The adoption at the International Labour Organisation of a convention covering the rights of domestic workers in June was an historic moment in the struggle to secure decent work for domestic workers globally. Sadly the British government and employers were amongst a handful not to support it convention. What difference can the convention make? And how can we get British government to sign up?

From 10.45am to 12.45am - Invision Suites, TUC Congress House.

Robin Hood Tax

2011 saw more and more governments signed up to the Robin Hood Tax - a vital antidote to cuts, poverty and climate change. One month out from the critical G20 leaders' summit in Cannes, how can we get the UK and others to join this growing band of merry (wo)men?

From 10.45am to 12.45am - Council Chambers, TUC Congress House.

Can the G20 deliver on decent work for all?

The G20 is now the premium body of global decision-making. But do its members have the will, the ideas, the consensus - or even the means - to tackle yawning global inequality and the rising numbers of people in precarious work? A range of speakers will debate this challenge - from the UK economy to the global south - in the lead-up to the make or break G20 summit in Cannes in November.

From 2pm to 4pm, Council Chambers, TUC Congress House
