Issue date

At the end of April, a delegation from the Norwegian trade union, Industri Energi, visited the Midlands.

Industri Energi has 60,000 members and is one of the biggest in Norway. The union organises oil and gas, electro chemical production, plastics and several other areas.

The delegation came to the Midlands to discuss organising strategies and opportunities as well as the challenges facing working people in the UK and how we can both learn from each other.

During the visit the delegation visited Jaguar Land Rover to meet with UNITE reps who are involved in one of the manufacturing success stories in the Midlands and met with UNISON West Midlands and Birmingham City Council to discuss the challenges facing local government at this present time.

The delagation also met with members of the Midlands TUC Executive at an informal reception. Finally, the delegation took an active part in May Day celebrations in Wolverhampton.
