Rapid Response Service.

The Rapid Response Service helps workers and employers by giving those facing redundancy access to the services of Jobcentre Plus and its partners before they lose their jobs. The support available through the Rapid Response Service is not just about Jobcentre Plus services - where appropriate other partners, such as the LSC, the devolved administrations, Local Authorities and Regional Development Agencies, will be involved to provide a package of support to those affected.

As the name suggests, early intervention is a priority objective, helping some workers into decent new jobs before they have lost their current ones.

Jobcentre Plus and its partners offer workers faced with redundancy a range of options to help them find alternative work. The service can be an important resource for union representatives in this situation.

There is a Rapid Response Service manager in each of the Jobcentre Plus regional offices (their contact details can be found on the Jobcentre Plus Website, www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/employers - click on 'help with redundancies').

Talent Challenge

Talented individuals affected by the recession are being encouraged to take advantage of a unique service set up to help deal with the effects of the economic downturn.

One North East has initially approved funding of £1.4m to develop Talent Challenge, a project which supports the region's talent pool.

The initiative is aimed at people who have leadership, managerial and professional experience and expertise as well as those who are highly skilled technical staff (NVQ level 4 or above) within priority or growth sectors - such as process industries and manufacturing - who face the possibility of redundancy, have recently lost their job or have been put on short-time working. The project is aiming to ensure that their skills and experience are retained within the region.

Talent Challenge is being carried out on behalf of the Skills and Employment Response Group (SERG), which comprises One North East, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), Jobcentre Plus and Government Office for the North East and is part of the region's 'Real Help for Business and People' campaign.

It is providing funding for a bespoke support service for the key target groups as well as help with bursaries, higher level skills training and placements working with the region's universities and colleges.

Plans are already underway to put the next phase of the service in place to March 2012. Those interested can contact the NRG dedicated project team on 0845 481 0469 or send an email enquiry to talentmanagement@nrgplc.com
