Call for solidarity with striking women workers in Turkey

We are calling on all our sisters to send a solidarity message related to the strike in Novamed in Turkey/Antalya.

Novamed is one of the factories of Fresenius Medical Care located in Germany. All the workers who have gone on strike are women who work under oppressive conditions such as:

* Women workers are required to apply for permission to marry;

* Married women are only allowed to get pregnant and give birth in accordance with the schedule arranged by the management;

* The women workers are usually humiliated by the male managers only because they are women.

More information about this case is on the ICEM website: http://www.icem.org/en/78-ICEM-InBrief/2398-Broad-Turkish-Attention-Given-One-Year-Novamed-Strike .

At the end of September the strike will be 1 year old. A group of women (women workers and women union representatives, feminists and women from political parties) will organise a Campaign in support of this strike in Istanbul. As a last step of this campaign, they will visit Antalya on 27th September 2007 in support of the sisters of the Novamed factory.

The KESK Women Secretary has asked us to support their Campaign either by publishing this information in your union publications and website or by sending a solidarity message to KESK who will pass it on to the striking women workers of Novamed.

Please send your solidarity messages to:
