About this Role

UNISON is Britain’s leading public sector trade union, with more than 1.3 million members working in the public services, private, voluntary and community sectors and in the energy services. We employ 1,200 staff, including approximately 370 at our national centre in Euston, central London and the remainder in our 12 regions across the UK, in Northern Ireland.

This is an important role and part of a small team comprising three support staff (including the team leader).

Key functions include:

  • Supporting the Head of the Charity
  • Delivering an effective administration and support service to all staff including the casework team.
  • Working with the Board of Trustees including the co-ordination and servicing of meetings and events.
  • Ensuring a consistent and high quality ‘point of contact’ service to those members experiencing personal difficulty in their lives.
  • Supporting and developing the Support Staff in their role.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate the ability to use their own initiative, organise work effectively, prioritise their activities and have a strong understanding of, and commitment to, ensuring UNISON members receive the best possible service.

Candidates will have gained their knowledge or experience through working in a grant giving charity or not for profit organisation with similar aims and values.

UNISON Welfare is evolving so that it can continue to meet current and future demands and deliver services that reach out and provide support to more members. We look for staff with a flexible and adaptable approach to work as this will ensure that the charity can continue to go from strength to strength.

The post involves occasional travel and work outside of the conventional working day. UNISON is a strong supporter of the work/life balance ethos and staff will take time off in lieu of work outside the normal working week.
