Overview

Trade unionists, activists and equality campaigners from across the region will come together at the TUC Midlands Equalities Conference on 31 October for a day of discussion, learning and action focused on the key equality issues facing workers today.

This year's conference brings together leading voices from across the trade union and campaigning movements to explore how we build fairer workplaces and stronger communities in a rapidly changing political and economic landscape. Delegates will have the opportunity to share experiences, learn from inspiring speakers and discuss the practical steps needed to advance equality in workplaces across the Midlands.

We are delighted to welcome Taj Ali, leading journalist, anti-racism campaigner and author, as our keynote speaker. Taj will reflect on the challenges facing anti-racist campaigning today and the role trade unions can play in building solidarity and tackling discrimination in all its forms.

Delegates will also hear from Quinn Roache, the TUC's LGBT+ Officer, alongside trade union activists and campaigners working to advance equality, inclusion and workplace justice. The conference will feature a session with Fraser McGuire from Unite Hospitality, exploring the experiences of young workers and the challenges they face in today's labour market, from insecure work and low pay to building workplace power and representation.

With major changes to employment law on the horizon, the conference will also include a dedicated session on the Employment Rights Act and what the new legislation could mean for equality representatives, workplace organising and the fight against discrimination at work.

Alongside the main speakers, delegates will take part in a range of interactive workshops, providing opportunities to discuss current challenges, exchange ideas, share best practice and identify practical ways to strengthen equality campaigning across the region.

Whether you're an equality rep, union activist, workplace representative or simply passionate about building fairer workplaces, the TUC Midlands Equalities Conference promises to be an engaging and informative day filled with insight, inspiration and solidarity. Join us as we explore how the trade union movement can continue to champion equality and create positive change for working people across the Midlands.
