Hostile anti-trans narratives have fuelled worrying levels of hate crimes against trans and non-binary people. This in turn has fostered a febrile environment where many trans and non-binary people, and their allies, have felt unsafe and been exposed to violence, attacks and hostility both online and in person.

Our Equality Campaign Plan provides affiliates with details of the overarching narrative for the work that we do to challenge inequality in the workplace and covers our work on Black workers, women, disabled workers, young workers and LGBT+ workers. The priorities outlined here have been identified by our democratic structures and through our statutory conferences and are set out in the context of the driving aims of the TUC running until 2026.

Far-right movements are using anti-LGBT+ narratives to scapegoat LGBT+ people – particularly trans and non-binary workers – while pressure grows to roll back inclusive policies and long-established LGBT+ charities and Pride organisations are being defunded. These attacks are inseparable from wider attempts to weaken workers’ rights, undermine public services and divide working-class communities.
