Lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT+) people in Britain have seen extraordinary advances in the last two decades. As trade unionists, we can be proud of the part we played in those achievements. But serious problems remain and unions still have work to do.

Prejudice and discrimination impact the lives of many LGBT+ people, including at work. As a rep, you have an essential role to play in fighting discrimination, since you’ll often be the first point of contact for members who are having problems.

You can also keep an eye on changes to the law on LGBT+ rights, and make sure your employer’s policies and practices are up-to-date.
