Expanding our Welsh language services on St David’s Day

Published date
On 1 March we celebrate all things Welsh – our food, our music, our beautiful landscapes and vibrant cities, our strong trade union tradition and, of course, our language.

At Wales TUC we are proud to have published our Cynnig Cymraeg – our Welsh Language Offer last year. The Offer sets out what you can expect to receive in Welsh when communicating with the Wales TUC.

Today, on our national day, we are pleased to launch our ‘Bilingual Telephone Greeting Service’.

You will now be greeted on the phone by a Welsh learner, a Welsh speaker or by a non-Welsh speaking member of the team who are proud to respond bilingually to the needs of unions, members, stakeholders and the public.

We can deal with your requests either Welsh or English, and a team member can call you back to conduct your call in Welsh if required.

Standing up for our rights

Wales TUC stands for the rights to speak Welsh in the workplace and the right to receive Welsh language services in the third sector, which builds on the existing rights to use the Welsh language when dealing with public organisations.

After all, providing and receiving Welsh Language services is a mater of equality in Wales and we ask everyone to play their part in continuing to develop and use Welsh Language services.

We recently launched our Welsh Language Forum. This Forum is an opportunity for union members to discuss their experiences of using Welsh in the workplace, to support unions to develop their Welsh language services and to support Welsh language learning in the workplace.

Expanding our Welsh language services is our way to celebrate St David’s Day, our Welsh traditions and our Welsh Language. We wave the Welsh Language banner on St David’s Day and remember that in unity there is strength!
