Back in 2004, a life changing decision took me to a place I’ve never known before. It was a place called Wales in the UK.

I came in search of a better future in my career and family life, both financially and in fulfilment of my dreams.

Working in the NHS has helped my family and relatives back in the Philippines receive better financial support. Specifically it has helped with medical expenses, home improvements and sending kids to school. This is one of the reasons why Filipino nurses like me work abroad.

My union has been a sturdy wall to lean on

Finding confidence and inner strength through my union

For the past 19 years I have raised my own family and extended my relationship with colleagues and friends. I have helped people in need by being involved in some charitable, cultural and personal outreach works.

Being a member of UNISON at Morriston Hospital gave me confidence and inner strength. Despite unfavourable circumstances that came through my life here, I’ve got a sturdy wall to lean on.

I’ve also given advice to colleagues and friends undergoing difficulties to reach out to union representatives and get help and support which they found was really helpful.
