Outcome summary

At the June Greener Workplaces Network, we focussed on two topics:

- How we can successfully decarbonise supply chains?

It is estimated that up to 90 per cent of an organisation's environmental impact comes from its value chain - either upstream (supply chain) or downstream (product use phase). Analysing and taking action to decarbonise supply chains is a vital step for all organisations seeking to reduce their environmental impact. But it is not always straightforward, because many of the issues are outside of an organisation's direct control.

At this session, we heard from Dr Anna Jones, Carbon Management and Climate Risk Advisor at Natural Resources Wales about NRWs' work to decarbonise their own supply chains and how lessons learnt from this work can be shared. You can download a copy of Dr. Jones' presentation below.

- What is the Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group and how can unions get our voices heard?

The Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru have jointly invited an independent group called the Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group  to explore how Wales can speed up its transition to net zero, and how amending its target to 2035 from 2050 could be made possible. Led by former Environment Minister Jane Davidson, the group is tasked with imagining what a fairer, more sustainable future looks like for Wales. They want to hear from people and communities across Wales and the world,  to listen to their experiences and ideas, across a range of key challenges.

The first challenge is How could Wales feed itself by 2035? .  Stan Townsend from the Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group joined us to tell us more about the work of the group and to explain how trade unionists can get our voices heard to inform the response to the challenges. Read more about the work of the group here.

Reps also took part in discussion groups and shared updates with what is happening within their own workplaces.

This Greener Workplaces Network event was chaired by network member Helga Dixon and Jo Rees (Wales TUC).
