Fair pay for all - solidarity with striking workers

Workers are facing the biggest cost of living crisis for generations. Real terms pay is falling, benefits aren’t rising and housing and energy costs are outrageously high. Work itself hasn’t got any easier – for lots of people it is now more insecure, more intense, and more exploitative.

Enough is enough. Workers shouldn't bear the burden of the government's misrule, so we are fighting back.

We’re facing the worst cost of living squeeze in over a century and we’re standing up for what we deserve – fair pay, benefits and living conditions for all.

Our immediate priorities are:

  • Solidarity with striking workers: We will show solidarity with striking workers and support their fight for better pay, terms and conditions.

  • Pay rises for all: We need a higher minimum wage and stronger pay bargaining rights so that working people and their unions can make fair pay agreements across whole industries. The UK Treasury must provide funding so that inflation-proof pay rises are possible across the public sector, including in devolved public services, outsourced services and other funded organisations.

  • Renationalise the energy industry and end the price cap increase: The planned energy price hike in October needs to be cancelled and the energy retailers must be brought into public ownership to make sure this never happens again. Rapid rollout of home energy efficiency and taking the energy retail companies into public ownership.

  • Social security that prevents poverty: Universal Credit and benefits should be raised to at least 80 percent of the national living wage, along with a significant boost to support for families with children.

We’re demanding better because we deserve better. Find out how you can show solidarity and support striking workers below, and - if you’re not a member already – join a trade union today to build our movement and make change happen.

Strike Funder

As hundreds of thousands of union members ballot for industrial action over the coming months, the TUC is launching a new service to support union members in dispute.

Union members don’t have the deep pockets of many employers or millionaire political donors. But when hundreds or thousands get together to give small donations, it can be a great way for us to show practical solidarity with workers in struggle.

Find out more at the TUC's strike funder page.
