The change in the voting system to a more proportional one means that every vote counts and the results are a lot less predictable.
But public awareness of this change remains relatively unknown and polling show that voters remain undecided about where they’ll put their X on the ballot paper.
Added to this mix is an increasingly unstable global picture, public services that are a shadow of their former selves and squeezed household budgets.
Is it really any wonder that the public are fatigued and want the guarantee of a fairer future?
Amidst this chaotic political scene, TUC Cymru remains true to our values and beliefs – we remain passionately committed to a Wales that works for everyone and our United Cymru campaign symbolises these values. We believe in a Wales where everyone has a voice through their union and an income, they can build a life on. We believe every worker has the right to be safe, valued and respected.
Our asks for the next Welsh Government are anchored on what we know workers in communities across Wales need:
The next Welsh Government must build on the success of the Wales Union Learning Fund and TUC Cymru trade union education so that workers are trained for the technological and low carbon transitions ahead.
A Modern Industrial Strategy must create and sustain jobs for everyone, including women, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic workers and disabled workers. The use of AI at work must be embedded in an ethical way. We need further investment in public transport.
Employers should take equality issues such as the menopause, mental health, stress and sexual harassment seriously. The workplace rights of Welsh Language speakers should be strengthened and progress is needed towards eliminating the Disability Employment Gap.
The next Welsh Government must recognise, and reward dedicated public sector workers across Wales. They should remove all profit from care and strengthen social partnership.
The next Welsh government should campaign to ensure any funding formula properly reflects the needs of people in Wales.
Read our Priorities for the next Welsh Government document which goes into more detail about what workers in Wales need and will be central to our work in the run up to the election and beyond.
We all have a part to play in the future of Wales.
