| The TUC's new unionism project supports unions in increasing membership, building effective workplace organisation, recruiting and training more workplace reps - making a real difference for union members in the workplace and beyond. As well as helping develop unions' existing membership, we focus on growth into new, less-unionised sectors of the economy, where workers have little experience of unions, but much to benefit from them. The project aims to make union membership appeal more especially to women, young workers, black workers and people on part-time, short-term or agency contracts.
Thanks to the project, and more importantly the efforts of unions themselves, there are clear signs that unions are on the way back up. Two-thirds of TUC affiliated unions have grown since 1997, and in a sharp upward trend in new collective bargaining deals, 500 companies drew up new recognition agreements last year.
This site will give you more information about the work of the project and, most importantly, how you can get involved in helping to organise the unorganised!
